Frequently asked questions
A Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) with a specialization in tourism is a university degree program that prepares students for management roles in organizations within the tourism industry, including those in the hotel and restaurant services sectors.
Offered jointly by ITHQ and ESG UQAM, the B.B.A. in Tourism and Hotel Management provides you with solid management training, in-depth knowledge of the tourism industry, and the opportunity to specialize in either tourism management or hotel and restaurant management.
A bachelor’s degree in tourism, such as the Bachelor in Tourism and Hotel Management, offers many career opportunities for future managers. You can pursue a career in tourism, hospitality, or restaurant services, particularly in operations management, business development, marketing, sales, human resources, and more.
Tourism is an industry that encompasses all organizations and destinations that welcome, transport, provide lodging for, or offer services to visitors. This includes the hotel and the food service sectors, as well as tourist attractions, festivals and major events, museums and heritage sites, airlines, cruise lines, travel agencies, tourist offices, etc.
Hotel management is a sector that specializes in the management of lodging facilities, such as hotels, inns, resorts, and outfitters. It also includes activities related to hosting conferences and events.
Restaurant services is a sector specializing in the management of food services, such as restaurants, catering companies, banquet services in hotels and convention centres, and institutional cafeterias.
Although the hospitality and restaurant services industries are part of the tourism sector, these fields have their own unique management realities. That is why the B.B.A. allows you to specialize in one of its four areas of concentration based on your professional interests.
A bachelor’s degree focussed exclusively on tourism would place greater emphasis on the management of tourism organizations and destinations (tourist attractions, festivals, and major events, museums and heritage sites, travel agencies, tourist offices, etc.), whereas a bachelor’s degree exclusively focussed on hotel management would primarily prepare students for the management of lodging and food service establishments (hotels, inns, restaurants, catering services, etc.)
By choosing the Bachelor in Tourism and Hotel Management, you’ll have access to the best of both worlds: a solid training in management, a core curriculum in tourism, and the opportunity to tailor your program by choosing one of the following four concentrations:
- Tourism Destination and Organization Management (B.B.A.)
- Tourism Management (B.B.A.)
- Cultural, Heritage, and Indigenous Tourism Management (B. Mgmt.)
- Hotel and Restaurant Management (B.B.A.)
The Tourism Destination and Organization Management concentration will teach you how to develop, manage, and promote tourism destinations and experiences (attractions, festivals and major events, airlines, cruise lines, travel agencies, tourism bureaus, etc.). If you already know that you want to specialize in this field, then this is a good option for you.
In comparison, the Tourism Management concentration offers a more versatile training, featuring courses in tourism management as well as in hotel and restaurant services management. If you aren’t sure which sector you want to specialize in yet, this concentration is perfect for exploring your options and building a path that fits you.
Only the co-op track of this program has an enrollment cap. There are no enrollment limits for any of the other programs.
