- As an international student, unless you qualify for an exemption, you will be automatically and compulsorily insured under the GreenShield private insurance option chosen by the ITHQ.
- This health insurance plan offers coverage in Québec and in the countries where the internships will be carried out (certain conditions may apply).
- To find out how much compulsory insurance will cost, consult the Program Fee Calculator for your program of study.
- To subscribe to this insurance, you will need to pay the fees indicated in your ColNET student account.
- Your coverage will begin on thefirst day of the month in which your training starts. If you arrive in Québec before your insurance coverage begins, you must take out private insurance of your choice for the period during which you are not covered.
Exemption request
- Some countries have signed a social security agreement with the Government of Québec, allowing their nationals to benefit from the Québec health insurance plan (RAMQ) for the duration of their studies.
- To find out if you can benefit from this agreement, consult the list of signatory countries.
- If you are a national of one of the signatory countries and wish to register with the RAMQ, you must obtain the Social Security affiliation form before leaving your home country.
- When you arrive in Montréal, you must apply online to the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ). The following documents will be required: passport, Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ), proof of school attendance (which you can obtain from the registrar’s office) and Social Security affiliation form.
- As a RAMQ beneficiary, you may be exempted from the compulsory health insurance chosen by the ITHQ. To do so, you must send a copy of your RAMQ enrolment letter to the registrar’s office.
- International students who benefit from the social security agreement can still choose to subscribe to the compulsory private insurance rather than registering with the RAMQ. If this is the case, there is no need to contact the RAMQ.
