Work during or after your studies

International students are allowed to work in Québec under certain conditions.

Working during your studies

Working on the ITHQ campus (student café, hotel, restaurant) is possible as long as you hold a valid study permit and are a full-time student at our school.

For full details and specific conditions, please consult the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) guidelines: Working on campus.

Holders of a valid Canadian study permit may work off the ITHQ campus for a maximum of 20 hours per week during regular full-time study sessions, and for an unlimited number of hours during vacations scheduled in the school calendar, subject to certain conditions.

For full details and specific conditions, please consult the IRCC guidelines: Working off-campus as an international student.

Internships, paid or unpaid, are an integral part of some of the ITHQ’s programs of study. To work as an intern, you must hold a student work permit for cooperative and internship programs (PTSC).

If your program includes one or more internships, you must apply for a PTSC at the same time as your study permit, in accordance with the terms and conditions determined by IRCC.

For full details and conditions, please consult the IRCC guidelines: Working as an intern or co-op student

Working after your studies

Holders of a post-secondary or vocational (secondary) diploma of a minimum duration of eight (8) months or nine hundred (900) hours (as applicable) have the opportunity to gain Canadian post-graduate work experience for up to three years.

Obtaining a Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is subject to certain conditions, which can be found on the IRCC website: Work or live in Canada after graduation

For information on the maximum duration of the PGWP for vocational diplomas in Québec, please refer to IRCC Instructions and Operational Guidelines.

Québec, you will first need to obtain a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ), issued by the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration  (MIFI), followed by Canadian permanent residency granted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

There are a number of permanent immigration programs in Québec, enabling applicants to obtain the CSQ, the most popular of which is the Québec Experience Program (PEQ).

In a context where immigration policies and rules are constantly evolving, the ITHQ cannot guarantee that all its programs of study will allow access to permanent immigration programs as Québec graduates.

In addition, although our team can provide general information on the subject, please note that we are not in a position to advise you on immigration to Canada, nor any concerns about permanent residency

To find out about current permanent immigration programs, please visit the official MIFI and IRCC websites:

If you need further assistance with your temporary or permanent immigration application, we recommend that you consult an immigration lawyer or a Regulated Immigration and Citizenship Consultant (RICC).
