Overview

Offered jointly with the École des sciences de la gestion de l’Université du Québec à Montréal (ESG UQAM), the Baccalauréat en gestion du tourisme et de l’hôtellerie, concentration gestion du tourisme culturel, patrimonial et autochtone enables you to acquire basic management skills while exploring the world of tourism through museum, heritage, cultural activities and indigenous communities sectors. 

WTO certified

The Baccalauréat en gestion du tourisme et de l’hôtellerie ITHQ-ESG UQAM is one of only two programs in Canada to have received a TedQual certification from the World Tourism Organization (WTO).

Program structure and courses

Duration and schedule

  • 90-credit program beginning in the fall and winter   
  • Offered on a full-time or part-time basis
  • 3 years full-time for the regular track  
  • Daytime and evening courses

  • The ITHQ reserves the right to cancel a course or program if there are insufficient registrations to justify its offering. In such cases, program and registration fees will be refunded in full.

Hands-on experience

End-of-program activity: 

  • A 400-hour paid internship in cultural or tourism development, in Québec or abroad

Diploma

Undergraduate Degree: Bachelor of Management (B.Mgmt.) from ITHQ and ESG UQAM with a major in Tourism and Hotel Management.  

All students are required to follow certain basic rules regarding professional image.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for this program, you must meet one of the following conditions: 

Based on college studies:

  • Have a Diploma of College Studies (DCS), with a minimum R-Score cut-off of 22

Based on academic studies:

  • Have successfully completed 5 courses (15 credits) in a Québec university at the time of admission application
  • Have a minimum academic average of 2.5 out of 4.3

Based on outside Québec studies:

  • Have a proper degree from an institution outside Québec after at least 13 years of schooling (or 12 years if there is an existing agreement with the Québec government) and have a minimum academic average of 11.5 out of 20 (or equivalent), OR
  • Have a pre-university diploma totalling 12 years of schooling and have successfully completed a preparatory year of 24 credits (8 courses) at UQAM, with minimum academic average of 2.00 out of 4.3.

Based on experience:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Have appropriate knowledge
  • Have at least 2 years of full-time experience in the tourism, hospitality or restaurant industry, OR
  • Have worked in relevant management roles for at least 2 years full-time (3 500 h)

In addition, and in accordance with UQAM’s French language policy, all candidates must be fluent in spoken and written French.

  • It is possible to obtain a recognition of prior learning and acquired competencies for this program. 
  • Other conditions apply to applicants who have already undertaken university studies or who come from abroad.
