Duties of a baker 

  • Make breads, pastries, muffins and cakes
  • Choose recipes, baking methods and product design
  • Order ingredients and manages inventory
  • Handle packaging and marketing of products
  • Manage sales in-house or through distributors

Qualities of a baker

  • I’m curious and creative.
  • I love trying out new ingredients and recipes.
  • I have good physical stamina.
  • I’m thorough and organized.
  • I have a strong sense of aesthetics. 
  • I like to work independently, but I’m also at ease in a team.
  • I’m not afraid of atypical working hours. 

Required experience and training 

  • You need 3 to 10 years’ experience in pasty-making and baking before becoming a baker. 
  • The number of years of experience required may vary depending on the type of establishment in which you work.
