As an international student, you are required to get the ITHQ medical insurance offered by Desjardins Insurance, unless you are exempt (see below).
Please carefully read the documents about your medical coverage and the possible exclusions:
Some countries have a social security agreement with the Government of Quebec that allows their nationals to receive benefits under the Quebec health insurance plan for the duration of their studies (consult the list of signatory countries).
Before leaving for Quebec, students who are nationals of one of the countries that have signed an agreement with Quebec must obtain proof of Social Security membership before leaving their country of origin.
Upon arriving in Montreal, you must go to the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) with the required proof of Social Security membership and the following documents: passport, Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) and proof of full-time registration.
For internships in Quebec, Canada or abroad (except in the United States), Desjardins Insurance coverage will be in effect for a period of 120 days. You will receive more information about this at your pre-internship information session.
Group insurance from Desjardins Insurance does not cover dental expenses. If you would like dental insurance, you can purchase the insurance offered by Alliance pour la santé étudiante au Québec (ASEQ). Note that this insurance is optional.
