Preparatory training for the Hautes Études en gestion hôtelière international / Advanced Studies in International Hotel Management Program

Preparatory training for the Hautes Études en gestion hôtelière internationale/Advanced Studies in International Hotel Management (ASIHM) Program lets applicants who do not have the required academic requirements or prior experience get the necessary foundation knowledge and skills to take this post-secondary program.

This 8-month program has the following goals:

  • Increase students’ English skills (oral and writing).
  • Improve students’ understanding of hotel management in North America.
  • Provide students with relevant professional hotel experience.


Block 1: 15 weeks of full-time courses (from the 3rd week of January to the 3rd week of May)

Program content:

  • 2 English and professional communication courses, with 90 hours of English-language tutoring.
  • 3 introductory training courses on hotel operations.
  • 1 course on communication and work methods for university-level courses.

Session total: 420 hours, 28 hours per week

Block 2: Operations internship* full time for 12 weeks at a hotel in Quebec, Canada, or France (beginning of June to the end of August).

*Paid or unpaid, depending on the standards of the country where the internship is done.


  1. Candidates who have not taken a CEGEP-level math course or the equivalent must pass this course during the preparatory training (additional fees apply).
  2. The operations internship is usually done at the Hôtel de l’ITHQ. If this is not possible, the Internship Department will help students find an internship placement, although it cannot guarantee that it can find a placement for students.
  3. Candidates are required to pass all preparatory training courses and the operations internship to be eligible for the ASIHM program.

To be eligible for the preparatory training, the candidate must have a CEGEP diploma or the equivalent.*

* An equivalent is considered to be the French Baccalaureate (in literature, economic and social sciences or science and math).

Students must wear a professional uniform or the ITHQ’s classic attire at all times during courses and internships. All students are required to comply with basic rules for maintaining a professional image in addition to the dress code requirements.

Students are given an attestation that they have passed the preparatory training for the ASIHM Program.


  • Application fee: 
    • Quebec students: $35 (non-refundable)
    • Foreign students or Canadians: $85 (non-refundable) + $50 for a comparative evaluation of studies done outside Quebec, if required
  • Registration fees including administrative services, student association fee, voluntary contribution to the Fondation de l'ITHQ and third-party liability insurance: $247
  • Tuition: $7,575* (payable in 2 installments of $3,787.50)
  • Uniform: Approximately $950
  • Complemantary insurance of AGEEITHQ for Quebec and Canadian residents covering dental and health cares : $96.67 (optional)
  • Complementary insurance of AGEEITHQ for international students covering dental cares : $60 (optional)

*Once students pass the preparatory training, a deduction of $1,500 will be applied to the first installment of the program tuition costs.

Ancillary costs and tuition will be reimbursed minus administrative costs of 25% if you cancel your registration before the first day of the training. After this deadline, no reimbursement will be given.
