After receiving her master's in management and tourism planning from UQAM, Catherine Noppen went on to specialize in event coordination with a focus on environmentally friendly event planning. In addition to her teaching activities and her contribution to developing the ITHQ’s Formation supérieure en gestion d'événements /Advanced Event Management program, she helped organize important events such as Kyoto 2005 (in close collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund) and launched the first edition of the Salon national de l'environnement in 2006, followed by the same show in 2007. In collaboration with Meeting Professionals International (MPI), she also helped organize National Meetings Industry Day Canada in 2008, a goal of which was to promote environmentally sustainable event practices.
Ms. Noppen also helped create the Quebec standard for Responsible Event Management initiated by the Réseau des femmes en environnement and the Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ). In her role as a BNQ auditor since 2010, she has performed a yearly assessment of responsible management processes for many event organizers. Ms. Noppen also sat on the local committee for the Green Industry Meeting Council conference in 2012 and currently has a seat on the Green Committee of Tourisme Montréal.
