A hub between Europe and North America, Montréal is the largest city in the province of Québec, in Canada. It is a metropolis renowned for its quality of life, a safe and welcoming city for students. Montréal is host to more than 17,000 international students who benefit from some of the lowest tuition fees in North America.
A cosmopolitan city where French and English live side by side harmoniously, Montréal offers a diversified cultural mosaic thanks to the many ethnic communities who chose to settle here.
The city boasts many green spaces, architecture that is the envy of the greatest American cities, and characteristic neighbourhoods reminiscent of Montréal’s European origins. On a more practical note, Montréal features a very modern public transit system and one of the world’s largest networks of bike paths, making it easy to get around in the city.
The ITHQ is located in an ideal part of town, between Quartier Latin and Plateau Mont-Royal, and a stone’s throw from the Quartier des Spectacles. In fact, Montréal is renowned as a vibrant city, hosting numerous shows as well as international cultural and sporting events throughout the year.
With its central location within a few minutes of the Montréal’s museums, theatres, cinemas and dance clubs, and surrounded by restaurants, pubs, and bistros, there’s no doubt that the ITHQ is in the heart of the action!
Located in Montreal, the only French-language metropolis in North America, the Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec (ITHQ) offers a curriculum taught in French, with the exception of Wine and Spirit Certificate (English only) and Hautes Études en gestion hôtelière internationale / Advanced Studies in International Hotel Management (bilingual: French and English).
At the ITHQ, the academic year is divided into three terms: Fall (August to December), winter (January to May) and summer (May to July). However, certain programs may be offered continuously throughout the year or include an internship during the summer term.
For information on registration and tuition fees at the ITHQ, refer to the Costs section in the page dedicated to your chosen program.
Please note that international students are not eligible for financial aid from the government of Québec. International students wishing to obtain a bursary or scholarship must contact the appropriate officials in their country.
In Montréal, the cost of living is very low compared to other major cities around the world. The ITHQ estimates that students can expect to pay approximately $1250 per month for living expenses (housing, food, clothing, transportation, social activities and sports), in other words about $15,000 per year. However, this amount does not include registration and tuition fees, uniforms and school materials.
Here is an example of a typical budget showing the basic expenses associated with an average student lifestyle.
