Program structure and courses

Duration and schedule

  • Program starting every year in the fall
  • Spread over 3 years old on a full-time basis (6 course sessions and 2 summer internships
  • Includes a total of 3 730 hours, including 2 795 hours of coursework and 1 135 hours of compulsory internships
  • Daytime classes
  • Educational outings and practical applications taking place according to variable schedules (day or evening)

  • The ITHQ reserves the right to cancel a course or program if there are insufficient registrations to justify its offering. In such cases, program and registration fees will be refunded in full.

Hands-on experience

Compulsory internships:

  • 4-month paid summer internship (415 h) in English immersion outside Québec in customer service
  • 3-month paid or rewarded summer internship (420 h) abroad, subject to obtaining the required visa, in hotel operations
  • 8-week unpaid end-of-program internship (300 h) in supervision of a work team

    Practical applications:

    • Throughout the training course: practical applications in hotel reception, restaurant service, bar service, etc.

    Internships are compulsory to obtain the ITHQ Signature certificate.

    • Diploma of Collegial Studies (DCS) in Techniques de gestion hôtelière from the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur
    • Signature ITHQ certificate in Techniques de gestion hôtelière
    • Food Handler certification in hygiene and food safety from the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec
    • Attestation of completion of the Éduc’alcool Action Service program

    All students are required to follow certain basic rules regarding professional image.

    Articulation agreement

    If you have a DCS from the ITHQ, you can access the Applied Bachelor in Hospitality and Hotel Management or the Baccalauréat en gestion du tourisme et de l’hôtellerie ITHQ-ESG UQAM and get your university degree in 2 years instead of 3

    To benefit from this agreement, you must have a minimum R-score cut-off of 26 and meet all program admission requirements.

    Admission requirements

    To be eligible for this program, you must:

    • Have a Secondary School Diploma (DES) or equivalent education, OR
    • Have a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) and successfully completed the Secondary 5 language of instruction courses, the Secondary 5 second language and Secondary 4 mathematics courses (Culture, société et technique CST 4e – 063404 or equivalent).
    • Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written French: refer to the Required language proficiency page for more details.

    Selection interview

    The ITHQ may invite you to a selection interview that will take place in-person or remotely, according to your place of residence.

    • Applicants must meet all of the requirements of their chosen program and provide all required documents. Incomplete or late admission application file will be considered ineligible.
    • In order for your file to be considered complete, be sure to upload legible copies of all official documents required by your status in PDF format.  
    • Documents that are not in French or English must be accompanied by an official translation in French or English.
    • Complete transcripts of university-level studies, including obtained diplomas and certificates, if applicable
    • Work certificates attesting to work experience relevant to the program, if applicable
