Since 2007, the Hôtel de l’Institut has gone green, in an effort to reduce its ecological footprint and respond to the needs of clientele that is aware of sustainable tourism. The Hôtel participates in sustainable development recognition programs organized by l’Association des hôteliers du Québec (AHQ) and the Hotel Association of Canada (HAC).

A leader in buying locally and responsibly

The room renovations carried out in 2010 were a breath of fresh air and a perfect time to make ecologically sound and responsible changes, including the following purchases:

  • Recycled fibre carpets and curtains
  • Simmons mattresses with replaceable Evernu mattress tops
  • Wood and granite furniture made in Sainte-Mélanie, Québec
  • Eco Spec paint by Benjamin Moore
  • Energy Star televisions and mini-refrigerators

For its part, the Restaurant de l’Institut offers market cuisine prepared with fresh, quality, locally produced foods.

Ecological choices to save energy and better manage water and waste 

  • Paper, cardboard, plastic and glass recycling bins in all hotel rooms and at all employee work stations

  • Intelligent hoods and induction cooktops used in the Restaurant de l’Institut kitchen
  • Cloth tablecloths and napkins used in the dining room Leftover food donated to La Maison Du Père on a regular basis
