1. As an International Student, can I work during my studies? |
|
You may receive authorization to work during and after your studies at the ITHQ, provided that you respect certain conditions. In some cases, a work permit will be required.

2. How can I take the TFI or TOEIC tests? |
|
These tests are administered worldwide by Educational Testing Service (ETS). For test locations and dates, contact the ETS directly.

3. How do I apply for admission? |
|

| 4. What programs does ITHQ offer? |
|
The Institut offers 14 specialized programs in tourism, hotel studies and food service, eight of which are open to international applicants (please see the Calendar of Programs of Study). Programs are offered at there different educational levels; these are profesionnal, advanced technical(?) and university (offered in conjunction with the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). 5. What is the language of instruction at the ITHQ? |
|
At the Institut, all the programs of study are given in French, with the exception of Advanced Culinary Arts, which is given in English. Except for the latter program, applicants must have a functional command of French, which means that they are able to follow courses in French.

6. When can I apply for admission? |
|
You can apply throughout the year; however, if you wish to start courses in August, your admission application must reach us before February 15. To start in January, your application must reach us before August 31 (please see the table Calendar of Programs of Study).

7. What steps do I have to follow to study at the ITHQ? |
|
As an international applicant, you must follow the steps below in order:
- Submit an Admission Application (PDF) to the Institut.
- Obtain the document Comparative Evaluation of Studies Done Outside Québec and enclose it with your admission form to the Institut.
- Apply for a Québec Acceptance Certificate for Studies (CAQ).
- Apply for a study permit, work permit, and if applicable, a temporary resident visa.
- Complete the entry formalities for Québec (Canada).

8. What charges do I pay to apply for admission? |
|
Fees to open a file are $75, are non-refundable and payable in Canadian dollars.
|

9. What fees must I pay after I have been accepted to the ITHQ? |
|
-Registration fees of $150 CA per term. - Tuition fees from $5510 to $5900 per term, depending on the program, and $20195 for Formation supérieure en cuisine or Advanced Culinary Arts. - The cost for health and hospital insurance of $725 for 12 months. This insurance is obligatory except for students from certain countries who benefit from a reciprocal agreement with Québec. - The cost of purchasing uniforms and educational materials for the entire program, ranging from $700 to $1000, depending on the program. - The cost of living and transportation (please see the COSTS section).

10. What financial aid is available for international students? |
|
International students are not eligible for financial aid from the Québec government or the Institut. If you would like to get a scholarship, you will have to approach the appropriate authorities in your country.

11. What proof must I provide to demonstrate my knowledge of French or English? |
|
Applicants required to demonstrate that they have sufficient knowledge of French must provide the ITHQ with the results of their Test de français international (TFI), taken within the last two years and administered by Educational Testing Service, or submit their Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française (DELF) or Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française (DALF). With regards to English, applicants must provide the results of their Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC), taken within the last two years and also administered by Educational Testing Service, or its equivalent, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

12. What special admission conditions apply to the programs open to international applicants? |
|
Your application for admission must be accompanied by a copy of the document Comparative Evaluation of Studies Done Outside Québec, issued by the Québec Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles (MICC). Please see Table of Conditions for Admission.
In addition, applicants whose mother tongue is not French must provide the ITHQ with the results of their Test de français international (TFI) or submit their Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française (DELF) or Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française (DALF). With regards to the Advanced Culinary Arts program, applicants must provide the results of their Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
