Working in Québec

You may be authorized to work during your studies provided you meet certain conditions.  Depending on the case, a work permit may also be required (a fee of $150 CA may be charged by the CIC(?) to issue this permit).

As an international student registered at the Institut, you may work:

On campus
This means at the Institut so long as you have a valid permit and are studying full-time at the ITHQ. In this case, a CIC(?) work permit is not necessary. Please note that employment opportunities at the Institut are limited.

Beyond ITHQ, as part of a work-industry placement
This means outside the Institut, for an internship in Québec or in the rest of Canada, paid or unpaid, provided that this placement is an integral part of your program of study. For this specific purpose, a CIC(?) work permit is required and is available at no charge.

Beyond ITHQ, as part of the Canadian Off-Campus Work Program
This means working for a maximum of 20 hours a week during the regular academic terms and full-time during the vacation period shown on the academic calendar. However, certain conditions apply and you’ll have to obtain a specific work permit for this from the CIC(?).

After graduation from the Institut
This means that under certain conditions you may hold a job related to your field of studies after having graduated from the Institut for a maximum period of two years. However, you’ll have to obtain a work permit for this from the CIC(?).
