The Institut has trained over 9000 graduates who today have careers in major national and international tourism centers. Located in Montreal, the only French-language city in North America, the Institut has successfully married European traditions with North American trends in cooking and hospitality.
The Institut is one of the few hotel schools in the world to have its own training hotel. As the Hôtel de l'Institut welcomes real clients, students are in a position to acquire hands-on experience under the watchful eyes of their instructors and hotel staff. This on-site facility allows students to put into practice all the typical operations of running a hotel, from front desk operations, concierge services, administration, restaurant service to kitchen operations.
Fully renovated in 2005, the 10-storey building that is the ITHQ houses outstanding educational support systems: food chemistry and sensory analysis labs, specialized classrooms for cooking, pastry making, baking and chocolate-making, a refrigerated classroom for catering courses, a sommellerie classroom, a multimedia documentation center, an 87-seat auditorium for university classes, language and computer labs, an audio-visual service, a fitness room and a student lounge.

ITHQ faculty consists of over 100 specialists in the arts of the table, the hotel industry, food service and tourism, as well as various management areas, in addition to basic subjects such as languages, mathematics, philosophy and computer skills. All our instructors have practical work experience in their fields and most of them have master’s degrees in administration.

Beyond making a name for itself at international culinary and other competitions, the ITHQ maintains successful relationships with well-known hospitality schools such as Kendall College (Chicago, USA), the École supérieure de cuisine française Grégoire-Ferrandi (Paris, France), the Lycée Paul-Augier (Nice, France), l'Université du Vin (Suze-la-Rousse, France) and the Alma Scuola Internazionale di Cucina Italiana (Parma, Italy).

The Institut’s Médiathèque, or multimedia center, is one the major Canadian multimedia libraries specializing in the hotel, tourism, and foodservice sectors. The staff of library technicians and professionals provides technical information to ITHQ faculty and students as well as industry professionals.

To stay on top of major international trends, the Médiathèque maintains a specialized media list that’s accessible to the public via our website, un babillard de nouvelles, as is the catalogue of holdings and a listing of 700 hospitality-related Internet links, répertoire de 700 liens Internet. Designed to facilitate research and consultation, the multimedia center offers nine seminar rooms for group work or preparation for oral presentations, and an area for viewing slides, videos, DVDs, and more.

| The Language Of Instruction |

At the Institut, the language of instruction is French. The school offers international students a wonderful opportunity to study in French in Montreal, one of the largest cosmopolitan cities in North America.
Applicants whose mother tongue is not French must demonstrate that they have sufficient knowledge to take courses in French. To do so, they must provide the ITHQ with the results of their Test de français international TFI (?), taken within the last two years and administered by Educational Testing Service. Alternatively, they may submit their Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française (DELF) or their Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française (DALF).
Being proficient in French and English, both written and spoken, is necessary for admission to the Advanced Studies in International Hotel Management program. Language skills evaluations will be required for both languages, namely the Test de français international (TFI) and the Test of English as Foreign a Language (TOEFL) (?), both of which are administered by the Educational Testing Service.

The various regular Institut programs lead to a government diploma*(?) granted by the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport du Québec. Students who also meet the higher requirements of ITHQ Signature programs(?) are granted an ITHQ Signature Certificate, an additional document attesting to the quality of education given at the ITHQ, recognized throughout the industry. *The Advanced studies in international hotel management program only leads to an Advanced Studies in International Hotel Management ITHQ Signature diploma, whose value holds industry-wide recognition, both in Quebec and abroad.
